Sangerhausen is a city in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt. It is located in the southwest of the province on the border with Thuringia and is the county town of the district of Mansfeld-Südharz.

Cultur and sights

In the city there are three medieval churches: the Church of St. Jacob’s Market, St. Ulrici (a Romanesque pillar basilica in the core) and St. Mary’s Church. Even some secular buildings like the Old Palace (only remnants), the New Castle and the Old Town Hall dating back to medieval times. Worth seeing is the addition of the medieval town with its town houses from the Renaissance period.

Since 1907 there is an Apostolic Church. The neo-Gothic, Sacred Heart Catholic Church was consecrated in 1894th

In Sangerhausen is since 1903 the European Rosarium which is the largest collection of roses in the world. It belongs to the network Gartenträume Saxony-Anhalt. In Spengler museum is the complete skeleton of an old mammoth.
